Production Diary

Zoe's Production Diary
22nd June 2011
I created the blog and added the blogs/posts titles so that the blog is organised and we remember to add information into each category. I have added the different types of genres and the codes and conventions in the genre music video, which i researched within my spare time. I have researched some bands/artists that use 'Hybrid'. I have started our audience research questionnaire proposal, i have explained what sampling Francesca and I have agreed on and come up with five questions that can be used in the final audience research.

1st July 2011
I also wrote down the sampling we agreed on and how we are going to gather this information to achieve better answers. I posted our audience research onto Facebook and showed the evidence on 'Audience Research'. This is where we have decided we are going to gather our second results.

4th July 2011
I just gathered the results from the social networking site and realised we haven't had every one's reply. This is going to be a problem because it won't help us get all our results we needed. I think if we use this method again, we will have to make sure that everyone replies on time. To help gather as much information as possible i have had to ask people urgently that were online on Facebook.

I added some connotation to some ideas that we found in lesson of other pop bands and described it in more depth and creativity by adding pictures and diagrams.

I have created each members personal story and information for our band. I have research real music colleges and places that each member could have gone to before becoming 'Sweet Alibis'. I have also research real idols for the characters/members of the band. This will make our work stand out because we have researched about real places that our members could have gone to and it makes each member seem more believable.

I have posted the history/back story of the band and put it into detail so it looks professional and organised. I have researched record companies that could relate to our band because I wanted the band to look like a real band. I have also emailed the recording company of our song choice, which can be found in 'Band Planning'. I have told them what we would like to use the song for and if we can have permission to use it.

14th September 2011
I looked at the lyrics and came up with some ideas for our storyboard. I wrote these ideas done for each shot and Francesca drew them as she is more artistic. This is will help us when we create our animatic and with our final product.

22nd September 2011
I have analysed the lyrics of the song and added this in 'Band Planning'. I have analysed for ideas for our music video and I have analysed why we chose this song.

Arrange with the pub manager to film during the day on 5th October 2011. He said that this wouldn't be a problem and to contact a few days before to book the time 10am - 2pm when public were not aloud in so we wouldn't have any disruption.

I have described what we are planning to do for our music video. I have explained in depth what our narrative is and why we have chose this narrative. This can be found in 'Band Planning'. I have also added more detail to influences of other bands in band planning, I have spoke about the framing and what they are doing in each photo graph, I have also added more images so that we could have more representation from other girl bands for our target audience age range.

5th October 2011
Started our individual Interim Tasks, adding a multiply of different media forms, e.g. Youtube, Powerpoint Presentation slides and Images. I have made my Interim Task on Prezi to use a different media form.

14th October 2011
Gathered equipment/props that were needed for this shoot, which were, drum kit with drumsticks and two guitars. I then filmed close - up's of Laura and Michelle performing, I also took some close ups of the instruments being played within a hour. Because of my absence Francesca filmed the other days and various other shots.

Analysed posters from pop artists in futher detail to help when creating our band's magazine advertisment.

I started working and creating our magazine advertisement for the band.

I added contribution to the CD digipack designs within class as we had devided poster and digipack between the group so we would do one piece of different media each.

23rd - 30th November 2011
Finishing the final touches to the video before booking and adding the extra filming footage so that there is less to worry about it when it comes to the final deadline.

2nd December 2011
I finished the poster and decided to change and adjust to make it a better quality poster for the magazine advertisement.

5th December 2011
We tried to book the location for final filming footage but was unavailable and had to be postponed until we could book the stage. The nearest date will be the 12th December 2011 which we booked for as long as possible so that we were sure that everything was complete.

Presented the poster to the teacher and they gave me tips and pointers to consider for the final product.

9th December 2011
Finished the poster and was very pleased with the final product.

I finshed the draft music video and saved print screens of editing into 'Evidence of Editing'. I also uploaded draft the youtube and facebook to ask for audience feedback.

I had trouble uploaded but was finally uploaded.

Started to write up answer to the evaluation question ready to make into 4 different technologies.

Started working on creating the different technologies for the evaluation.

Uploaded print screens and screen shots of uploading the video to social networking and youtube.

Uploaded print screens of the process of the magazine advertisement. I have also uploaded the my analysis of posters because it wasn't able to upload before. Finished and Uploaded my evaluation.

I have also researched in my own time a folk rock band, a pop rock, ska punk and country soul artist which can represent a hybrid genre. I have created five questions that can be used for our audience research. I have also explained what genre is.

I have put on the results from our first audience research, i have shown the qualitative answers as evaluated paragraphs and the quantitative answers as graphs. The results can help us to now create a second audience research, which can be more specific as we now know what our target audience want.

8th July 2011
I come up with  possible names for our band, which then Zoe and I went through them and we choose the most appropriate one, which was 'Sweet Alibis'.  This fits our band as our themes to most of our songs is love.

I have put on the results from our second audience research, I have put them into qualitative and quantitative answers. I have then came up with an conclusion to help us with what we need to rake into consideration.
I have create a Facebook page for our band 'Sweet Alibis' i have posted a screen shot of this FacebookPicnik.com, which has been used for our profile picture on Facebook.

I have sketched the promotional photos that we want to take within the next week. i have also annotated what these images will convey to the target audience. This is will help with the photos because it will tell us where and why we want to do it this way.

i have sketched extra promotional photos, and i have annotated them to show why we would use these shots and what they covey to the audience. these sketches will help us to take the photos , it tells us where and what the photos should look like and it also tells us why it should be this way.
for example the low angled shot of the drummer create interest and creates importance, as it conveys power of the drum and the drummer.

I have added the photographs for our CD digipack. we took them in the summer holidays, we came into the school and took the photos on the 19th August.

I have draw the potential images for the storyboard, which will be turned into an animatic to help us figure out what works in our music video and where the transitions work. Also  tell us where we need to become more creative and add more shots in.

i have taken more photographs for our CD digipack. we didn't like some of the ones we took before. these are more fun and original. These promotional photos for our advertisement and digipack, which are in 'CD/DVD digipack'.

i have done analysis of some Pop artists album covers. These can help us for when we create our own CD cover. We can use the typical conventions of a Pop band, but we can also add our own original ideas to make our CD cover more creative. After looking at album covers i have looked at fonts from http://www.dafonts.com/ i have came up with some potential fonts that we can use for you album. The fonts are curly hand written, think is gives the band a romantic, sweet style. this can be found in 'CD/DVD digipack'.

Filmed the single shots of Stephaine and Alexa. I was going to shoot the drummer too but we could get any drum sticks.

I filmed the while song all the way through with Stephaine and also went through the whole song with Alexa's. I used medium shots and close ups.

I have posted Evidence of Editing. I have shown a photo of Zoe and I editing our music video on Final Cut Express.

I have uploaded Evidence of creating our CD Digipack. This shows us creating the CD cover on Photoshop. I have also uploaded the Logo on the blog and I made this using picnik.com

I added a contribution to the poster, We decided to split the poster and the CD digipack between us both as then we would have one piece of media each. Zoe is designing the poster and I am designing the CD digipack.

I have created more inlays on photoshop for the CD cover.

I have shown the teacher my CD cover and inlays and he has given me advice of what i can do to improve them.

I have created the back cover for the CD on photoshop. I have also blogged the 9th December, which is a voki telling you what i had done. I have blogged CD cover and inlays, which is screen shots of our final drafts of our CD digipack. I have added to the post Evidence of creating CD digipack.

We did the full band filming todays, and i took the evidence of filming on my camera. I also we on the light desk, changing the lights and the technical part of the lights.

Class Work:
I added  'What to think about when considering audience research' to help us with our questionnaire and make it appropriate for our audience. I added 'Why do we need audience research' because we have to know what information we need to find to make our product successful. 'History/Conventions and genre artists' to help find out where each genre came from and how is represented to the audience.

Class Work
I have added different types of sampling and their advantages and disadvantages that we researched within the lesson. i have added more 'History/Conventions and genre artists' for Rock, Contemporary R’n’B and Spanish Hip Hop. This helps to find out how each genre is represented and how the genre has be originated.

Class work:
During class time, we worked out what we needed to have to help with our band. We started by deciding what genre we needed to look at and we look at the pop bands to get inspiration and ideas to help create our band. We found a couple of bands that were similar to the one we wanted to create and used those as influences. Francesca and I also analysed a couple of pop music videos for conventions that we can use in our band. Our main focus is 'Selena Gomez and the Scene' because this is an unusual band for a pop band so we are using this band as a base and developing other pop conventions into this basic idea.

Francesca and I created the back story/history for our band. We worked out how they got together and what they have done before contracted to a recording company. We also came up with names for our band members. Added information on 'What to think about when choosing a song' which we talked about in class.

Classwork: We planned our shooting schedule and locations for what days we were free with our band mates timetables. This will help when booking for the stage and pub. The second hour of the lesson we booked the stage and went to the music department to see if we could use the correct equipment we need.

Filmed the main singer Stephanie from the front angle and we have filmed the full band. We had to film it then due to the year 11 exams in the school hall, and also there was a school performance and they had the set up for 3 weeks.
