Audience Research

Why do we need audience research?
- To find what your target audience want,
- Finding a gap in the market - Unique Selling point,
- Make sure your product influence/relate to audience,
- Make sure you know what your audience don't want to see.

What to think about when considering audience research:
- Be Fair - Take all audience opinions and suggestions,
- Wide Range audience - ask a variety of people not just your friends,
- Ask the same people on your second round of audience research unless you know who you want exactly,
- Use language that everyone can understand - do not use media terminology if they do not understand it,
- Consider your sample - understand exactly what your asking them,
- Ask people who are experienced in music.

Sampling
Convenience sampling:
-          They know exactly who they want to ask. They know who their audience is.
-          Already selected audience

Advantages
-          Saves time with asking a wide audience who isn’t going to give answers you want.
-          You know what specific questions you want to ask.
Disadvantages
-          If that audience don’t like you product, your audience range will not help find your target audience.
Random sampling:
-          Anyone you find.

Advantages:
-          Wide audience ( if you don’t know your target audience)
Disadvantages:
-          If you already know your audience, it will give you information you don’t need.

Stratified sampling:
-          Figuring out your target audience by using demographics (how many woman/men, age, etc)
-          Chose sample on facts(50% men, women, etc)

Advantages:
-          Get more information
-          More specific to a group of people
Disadvantages:
-          Misses people on important views

Judgement sampling:
-          Get a group and hope that the rest of that target audience will have the same opinion.

Advantages:
-          Saves time.
Disadvantages:
-          Can’t expect everyone to have the same view as the selected group.

Quota sampling:
-          To select a group of people by gathering representative data from a group
Advantages:
-          It is easy to organise
Disadvantages:
-          You don’t get all of the information accessible, as the sample is non-random
