Music Video

Influences for filming
When we were looking at pop bands, there were influences that we got from their music videos that we wanted to interupt and develop into our music video to use pop music conventions.
The Saturdays: (Missing You)
- Introduce each member of the band and the beginning of the video,
- Upbeat Love song - Dance Routine (This is a result that we found within our audience research, they wanted a love song but also wanted a dance routine)

Parade: (Perfume)
- Party Scene to show happiness of song

Girls Can't Catch: (Keep Your Head Up)
- Show each member of the band in different locations when singing together.

SoundGirl: (Don't Know Why)
- The band are together when telling singing and telling story.

Wonderland: (Not a Love Song)
- Not always looking at camera when performing.

Animatic for Music Video

This is our storyboard in a movie format, this can help us see if there are any shots missing, or if our narrrative is clear. This is more easier to understand than a storyboard on paper. The URL for this video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaADpWXQLF0&feature=channel_video_title

Audience Research

Why do we need audience research?
- To find what your target audience want,
- Finding a gap in the market - Unique Selling point,
- Make sure your product influence/relate to audience,
- Make sure you know what your audience don't want to see.

What to think about when considering audience research:
- Be Fair - Take all audience opinions and suggestions,
- Wide Range audience - ask a variety of people not just your friends,
- Ask the same people on your second round of audience research unless you know who you want exactly,
- Use language that everyone can understand - do not use media terminology if they do not understand it,
- Consider your sample - understand exactly what your asking them,
- Ask people who are experienced in music.

Sampling
Convenience sampling:
-          They know exactly who they want to ask. They know who their audience is.
-          Already selected audience

Advantages
-          Saves time with asking a wide audience who isn’t going to give answers you want.
-          You know what specific questions you want to ask.
Disadvantages
-          If that audience don’t like you product, your audience range will not help find your target audience.
Random sampling:
-          Anyone you find.

Advantages:
-          Wide audience ( if you don’t know your target audience)
Disadvantages:
-          If you already know your audience, it will give you information you don’t need.

Stratified sampling:
-          Figuring out your target audience by using demographics (how many woman/men, age, etc)
-          Chose sample on facts(50% men, women, etc)

Advantages:
-          Get more information
-          More specific to a group of people
Disadvantages:
-          Misses people on important views

Judgement sampling:
-          Get a group and hope that the rest of that target audience will have the same opinion.

Advantages:
-          Saves time.
Disadvantages:
-          Can’t expect everyone to have the same view as the selected group.

Quota sampling:
-          To select a group of people by gathering representative data from a group
Advantages:
-          It is easy to organise
Disadvantages:
-          You don’t get all of the information accessible, as the sample is non-random

Questionnaire Proposal

To help with further research, we have decided to use social networking to help gather a wider range of our target audience. This will help us with information because it will be easier and lots of people go onto social network site every day.

Band Planning

What to think about when planning our act:

- Group or solo
- Genre
- If group: size, gender and age
- Target Audience
- Image of group and individual member
- USP
- Convey/Communicate image of each person - how they look: clothes, hair, etc

Band Planning
We are creating a band of four members, which will consist of one female lead singer and male band members. We have got this idea from 'Selena Gomez and the Scene'.
The main focus is on Selena Gomez but she still has a band to create the music.
We wanted to use this idea because it will help our USP, it is very rare to find a pop band that play instruments within the music video. This is will help us be different from other pop bands. Also, we are going to have all girl members which play instruments, this will help the USP because it is unlikely to have female's playing instruments in a pop band. Our band are going to be age 19 - 24, we have chosen this because a convention of pop music is having the artist older than the target audience because they use the artist as an idol.

Image for the band
Our image for our band is that the band is going to be serious about the music and not how they look. This influence has come from 'Girls Can't Catch'

They are standing is a confident position, they have a very straight and presentable posture to show this. They are also wearing clothing that suits them and make them feel comfort and look like a normal teenager. The framing of this picture is very short and shows some surroundings and what the act is doing. The area they have shot in looks very descret and mysterious because you could have various views. For example, behind a building, by the sea (Right of picture), etc.

Another influence for our band's image is the pop band, Parade.
They all wear clothing that suits their personality. This is effective because it could inspire people in fashion to suit their personality that could be similar to a member of the band. This could influence us to have a different outfit for a different member to show there personality. This band is also standing very confidently but show through facial expressions as well as posture. The image shows some of the band leaning on the wall and standing so that we can see all band members. The framing of this image is effective because it has very bright colours to make clothing. Also you can see surroundings behind them which shows that they are outside near wildlife.

Our last influence for our image for our band is Wonderland.

This influenced us the band can were similar clothing. Wonderland are all wearing jeans but added their own style and individuality to it to make it their own. This is useful because it sends a calm and relax atmosphere to the band. The group are standing very confidently as well as indiviually, they are being themselves. They are posing for this photograph but they are being themselves and making sure that they stand out from the other band members and to be different. The framing of this image make to setting look like a mystery on what they are doing there. There are by a window with some show lights behind them, they could be at a photoshoot or a music video set. It shows where they are working.

Image for each member
Lead Singer:
We want the lead singer to be an idol for our audience, we want to show her as covered up (showing no flesh) but glamorous. Our influences is:
- Selena Gomez
We have chose Selena Gomez as our inspiration because she is very natural and doesn't use flesh to get audience. This has influenced us because we want our lead singer to be the main attraction and we want her to be respected and not shown as a sex symbol. This is another USP, we are not using our artist to be show as a sex symbol to sell albums, we are going to show her as her true self.

Band:
Our band is going to be laid back but smartly dressed. We want to have a relax feeling within the band. We want them to wear similar clothing to show that they are a new band. This influence has come from SoundGirl:

Band Image
I look at different influences for our lead singer, Stephanie. I wanted her to relate to other pop singers and have an influence on their target audience. I analysed other singers and artists that have the same target audience and what they do to attract and influence there audience. This what I found: (This is an A3 Image and could scan so had to add picture)
Band History/Backstory

The band was created in University. They all have different background, different cultures and have learned music in different ways. This is what makes the band so successful, they all use their own experiences to create a successful career. They all attended The Royal Academy of Music, where they created 'Sweet Albis'.

The start of their career was like every basic band, they performed at local festivals and events for their university. They competed at all their university's talent competitions and won 3 years in a row.

Their career took off on the last year of university when recording agents visited a music performance and signed them to 'Angel Air Records'. This record companies release pop and rock bands within the UK. It is an English Independent record label which was established in February 1997.

What to look for when choosing a song?
If we are choosing a existing song we have to check for copyright and make sure we get full permission before use. But what we have to think about when we choose a song:
- Match Band Image
- Match Band Genre
- Listen/Read the lyrics - You can see a narrative that you can use in your music video
- Think about your target audience - has to relate to them, deal with situation they go through.
- Think about the pase of the song because the cutting rhyme will have to match.

We have chosen to use the song Selena Gomez & The Scene - Sick Of You, as this song  represents the image of our band and the theme of the music which is love and relationships can relate to the band wants to express. This is also an upbeat song, which our target audience wanted so that we can have dance routines. This is also a Pop song, so it fits the genre of the band. This song has lyrics that our target audience could relate to if they are in the same situation. Also, within the audience research they decribed artists that they liked and idolised; Jessie J and Rihanna. This song has a love side that Rihanna performs and enjoys to sing, and this has Jessie J's attitude and 'swagger' of the artists points of view.

Evidence of Email for Copyrights

This is an email for Fascination Record company for copyrights to use one of there songs they have produced; Selena Gomez and The Scene - Sick of You.

Sick of You Lyrics:

I'm sick of the sleepless never ending nights.
I just don't care who was wrong or right,
I'm sick of the rumors and the alibis
You tear me up

I'll cut you down a size
S-S-S-S-So Sick of You, So sick of you
Sick of all of your little lies
S-S-S-S-So Sick of You, So sick of you
Sick of feeling bad by your side

What you don't know,
Is how great it feels to let you go

I'm happier alone, taking down your pictures,
And I'll throw those memories out the door,
I'm sick of you, so sick of you,
Sick of all of your little lies.

I'm sick of the sleepless never ending nights.
I just don't care who was wrong or right,
I'm sick of the rumors and the alibis
You tear me up

I'll cut you down a size
S-S-S-S-So Sick of You, So sick of you
Sick of all of your little lies
S-S-S-S-So Sick of You, So sick of you
So I'm gettin' on with my life

S-S-S-S-So Sick of You, I'm so Sick of You
So Sick of You (Oh woah)
S-S-S-S-So sick of you, I'm so sick of you
So Sick of you, oh woah

What you don't know,
Is how great it feels to let you go

Our Narrative

The song we have chosen hasn’t got an existing music video which we have decided to be imaginative and creative and come up with our own ideas just listening to the song.
The narrative that we have created for this song is about a boy who is cheating on his girlfriend. We have chosen this narrative because this narrative relates to our target audience. This is a common within our target audience life and wanted something that they will feel familiar with.
Our narrative links well with song because it is say that she doesn’t need him to be happy, which is what the narrative is about. In the story, she walks away and leaves him. This shows are audience that they can do the same thing and that it could make them feel much happier that they can follow in their idols footsteps.

Production Process of Music Release:
 http://www.audiorecording.me/music-production-process-how-does-it-take-to-produce-a-song.html

Step 1: The moment the artist recording label (like Universal Records, Sony BMG, etc) decided to start an album recording project. The recording label assigns a record producer to the artist. In some cases, the artist will be the one to select a record producer but this is subject to recording label approval.
Step 2: The recording producer along with what has been agreed with the artist and recording label will finally decided on what type of sound they are planning to achieve. Some rough ideas on songs to be included on the album might be discussed in this stage (if the artist has some rough demos before).
Step 3: The recording producer drafts the recording plan and activities and quotes the budget. The recording label will be the one to entirely finance the recording of the album songs.
Step 4: The recording producer with the coordination of artist and recording label will shop for songs and contact music publishers they know or even songwriters they have partnered with. They will decide the final song lists to be included in the album along with the possible singles (hit songs).
Step 5: The recording producer starts the recording session with the artist.
The recording producer is responsible of the song arrangement, instruments to be added to song, sound and style of the music. And then the recording producer will be the one to rent a studio, hire an engineer, hire additional musicians and booked additional vocalists to complete the recording. The budget used is provided by recording label.
Step 6: Once everything is recorded, the mixing session starts. The recording producer hires a mixing engineer appropriate for the sound of the album.
Step 7: Once the mix has been finalized, the recording label and artist will approve it. Once approved, the mastering session will start.
Step 8: The mastering session prepares all tracks for commercial production and replication. In this stage the recording producer hires a mastering engineer. The song artist and recording label should also approve the master. The product of the mastering stage is the master CD ready for replication. The recording producer work is now complete and he/she will provide the CD to the recording label.
Step 9: The recording label will finalize the album art design, marketing plan and replication.
Step 10: Singles or hit songs from the album (selected tracks) will be provided to the radio stations for massive airplay as part of album marketing. Music videos are also released to music video channels.
And the artist will start visiting radio stations, TV stations or even perform concerts as part of the promotion.
Step 11: Listeners listen to the songs aired on the radio. The music production process has been completed.

Pre – Production:
The first stage of a successful production is planning. It is important to plan thoroughly by identifying clearly your Production aims, style, key messages and target audience. This planning stage is a two way process between what you tell us about your market and aims and what we can suggest to you in order to formulate effective and creative video treatments.
Exchange of information and ideas combined with our Production experience enable us to tightly integrate the Production from the start.
Effective and entertaining Professional video speaks volumes about you, your organisation or your Company. A well-planned, well-researched Production delivering your key messages with the right image and style for you is the goal of this stage. Pre-production planning is thus vital to ensure your Production hits its target audience with maximum force and impact. Once discussed the project and done the research the final step is a treatment or storyboard made and presented for client approval.
Production:
Working with a range of professional formats from broadcast standard kit to the sony dvcam range. Use experienced crew to produce crisp, clean and creative video with superb content, and technical quality.
Produce for Broadcast, Corporate clients and duplicate / encode pieces for bulk vhs / dvd distribution and indeed for many formats or delivery systems in-between.
Production department is tightly integrated with post-production to ensure you retain throughout the pristine picture and audio quality. Digital integration not only ensures high-end production values, but reduce production costs too. This gives you quality video at competitive prices.
Post – Production:
Post-production facilities offer choices in both on & off line non-linear editing. Non-linear editing means that each and every aspect pf your Production from video scenes, audio, images, text, or graphics can be mixed, cropped, merged, changed or deleted as you wish, there and then.
Non-linear editing enables both faster and considerably more creative video. Digital editing systems offer unlimited creative possibilities: special effects too: indeed everything that is necessary in order to produce stunning video productions. The second stage of post-production is the completion of a 'rough edit' for the client to see and discuss any changes. With digital non-linear editing changes to the piece can be done there and then with the client. Clients can then view the edit and take the chance to fine-tune the style, key messages and impact of the production: post production allows us to add, delete, polish off and mix all our source material creatively into a final or 'master' edit. When we have client approval this final cut can then be recorded to the format or media of your choice such as video, cd, dvd or even video for the web. Broadcast can supply bulk-run copies in designed and printed sleeves and also archive your edit for future reference.
